Formed in 2023, The Grit came together organically from Tacoma’s vibrant local music scene. Kenny Callahan (rhythm guitar, vocals) and Brandon Devine (drums, vocals) had previously crossed paths while playing in separate bands before reconnecting to start something fresh. Matt Pickering (bass) joined through a workplace connection with Brandon, and in 2024, Dave Metzler (lead guitar, vocals) rounded out the lineup after a chance meeting at a local open mic. The result? A dynamic four-piece band that blends island reggae, country, and singer-songwriter vibes into a sound that feels soulful, uplifting, and deeply personal.
What sets The Grit apart is their ability to take familiar songs and make them their own. Whether it’s transforming a country hit into a reggae jam or slowing down a popular tune to fit their signature style, their creative interpretations have resonated with audiences.
